School Food and What is Wrong with School Vending Machines

I have a 5th and 8th Grader and notice some things that is really frustrating at my children's school that I wanted to share.  My kids attend a couple of school events after school and sometimes they eat through their snacks and will often purchase snacks after school to get them by till dinner.  Their school has a vending machine that I found out does not have healthy nor nourishing snacks.  The vending machine at their school is filled with soda's that includes Mountain Dew and snacks that are sugary, process and loaded with preservative/additives.  If I had the power to change one thing in their school as a mother I would provide healthy options for children and that would start at the school's vending machine.  My wish is too go in and change out the vending machine with a healthy vending machine that would include beverage and snacks with limited ingredients and minimal processing.  Planning ahead is effective, in eliminating unhealthy snacking.  The snacks below are both savory and naturally sweet to help with all carvings.  

 ~Here are some examples of prepackage snacks that I would included~

1.)  Skinny Pop Popcorn


2.)  Dried Fruit


3.)  Granola Bars


4.)  Rice Crackers


5.)  Green Tea or Water


6.)  Fruit Strips


7.)  Chick pea Snacks


8.) Beef Sticks


9.)  Van's or Annie's Cheez-Its (Cheese Crackers)


10.)  Fig Newtons
