5 Tips to Create a Farmhouse Kitchen on a Budget

I recently just updated my kitchen with a fresh coat of paint.  If you been following me for a bit you know my kitchen was bright red and I had it painted a soft white by Sherwin Williams, what a change!  I am still getting use to it however, I wanted to update some of my decor and create a space that represent simple living and all the things I love.  I love being in my kitchen plus it is the main hub in my home from preparing dinners, paying bills to determining future goals.

I love thrifting and finding objects for my home that I treasure and are unique.  Here are 5 ways to create a farmhouse kitchen that is all the rage and on a budget.

1.)  Herbs- A true farmhouse kitchen finds ways to decorate with functional pieces.  The pieces need to be used daily and a window herb garden is definitely brings in pops of green and life.  I use macrame hanging pot holders and just like magic I think it looks fantastic.

2.)  Crocks-I love crocks old and new for storing items, use as a pot for plants or just by itself.  The pops of blue are calming, simple and pleasant to the eye.

3.)  Natural Textures-  I love this woven rug it is nice for a little elevation by the sink because I am short.  The rug is very durable with animals and children.  Also, I love using baskets in my kitchen not only to decorate but for storing cookie sheets and chips/snacks.

4.)  Ironstone Plates-  Hanging plate on a wall is no secret and has been around forever.  I remember going to my grandma's home and admired her many cherished plates that were displayed on her walls.  These 3 Ironstone Plates were a thrift find that I would never eat off because they are so beautiful by themselves but, wanted to display them and I think I found the perfect home.

5.)   Patina-  Anything in a farmhouse that is old, worn and shows signs of aging is a must.  This star and cross I have loved for years and were garage sale finds, I was not about to give up.  I used paint thinner to strip all the red and sanded it to it natural state.  I thought about painting it and roughing it up but, I really loved the metal and rustic look.
