DIY: How to Clean your Dishwasher!

Never in a million years did I know you had to clean your dishwasher boy, I am naive.  I bought my dishwasher a 1 1/ years ago and it is an "energy star".  Lately, I have notice my dishes were not cleaning as well, and I was frustrated.  I begin researching and learned "energy star" appliances require more maintenance such as cleaning the trap, filter and blades, who knew!

I used 2 ingredients to clean my dishwasher and after doing, I notice a huge difference.

Here is what you will need:
  • baking soda
  • white vinegar

First, remove as many parts from your dishwasher as you can, look at your owners manual for details.  Remove the filter, trap and blade (s).  Wearing dish gloves feel around to loose food, toothpicks, broken glass, etc.

Place all items in a sink filled with hot water and vinegar, let soak for an hour, then rinse and place back inside of dishwasher.
Now take your baking soda and mix with water to make a paste and scrub all the non-removable parts.  Fill your detergent spot with white vinegar and run a quick cycle to rinse all and sanitize the dish washer.

I will be deep cleaning my dish washer every season to prevent build up again.
